You Will Be Tempted!

2 Corinthians 4:4 - Satan is called “the god of this world”

God’s Tests vs. Satan’s Temptations

James 1:12-15 Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13 No one undergoing a trial should say, “I am being tempted by God,” since God is not tempted by evil, and he himself doesn’t tempt anyone. 14 But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire. 15 Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.

You Can Be Delivered From Temptation

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.

God has provided a way of escape!

Hebrews 4:14-16 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—let us hold fast to our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.

Mark 1:12 Immediately the Spirit drove him into the wilderness. 13 He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels were serving him.

We fight temptation with Jesus’ power, like the girl who explained what she did when Satan came with temptation at the door of her heart:

Resisting Temptation is not Passive

James 4:7-8 Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
“What we are taught to seek or avoid in prayer we should equally pursue or avoid in action.” -Spurgeon
